Botox®

Botulinum toxin (Botox®, Dysport®, Xeomin®) is a purified protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum  which functions to prevent the release of acetylcholine (a neurotransmitter) at the end of nerves. Essentially, Botox® blocks the signal from the nerves to the muscles. When using Botox® as an injection, it prevents that muscle from contracting. Thus, when injected at a certain areas it causes wrinkles to soften and relax.
